چکیده
____________________________________ Date iii ACKNOWLEDEGEMENTS I would like to thank all those people who made this thesis possible. My first debt of sincere gratitude must go to my advisor, Dr. Christopher Parrish. Given that my previous research background matched his research direction, he accepted me to be his student in the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping. For this thesis, he offered his unreserved help and guidance and assisted me with the entire process, from defining the goals and scope of the research to formatting the thesis. I could not have imagined having a better advisor and mentor for my graduate study. advices to improve my research and thesis. Considering that English is not my first language, they also took efforts to correct my endless writing mistakes. I could not have finished my research and thesis so soon without their encouragement and assistance. I also thank Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping. Here I learned a lot of advanced knowledge and technologies. In addition, it provided the funding which allowed me to undertake this research and the opportunity to attend conferences to present my research to others. iv give me a very carefree environment and unconditional love, so that I can concentrate on my study. I own them too much and wish they could know how much I love and appreciate them. Thanks. Figure 2.6 Two selected areas for non-tide-coordinated human compilation uncertainty analysis (red boxes) .

Empirical Analysis of Aerial Camera Filters for Shoreline Mapping
Accurate, up-to-date national shoreline is critical in defining the territorial limits of the Unites States, updating nautical charts, and managing coastal resources. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) delineates the interpreted shoreline photogrammetrically using tide-coordinated stereo photography acquired with black-and-white infrared emulsion. In this paper, we prese...
متن کامل3-D Shoreline Extraction from IKONOS Satellite Imagery
Shorelines are recognized as unique features on Earth. They have valuable properties for a diverse user community. At present, photogrammetry is the most popular technique used to capture a shoreline. With improved resolution and accuracy, commercial highresolution satellite imagery is demonstrating a great potential in the photogrammetry application domain. One example is the utilization of IK...
متن کاملError Determination in the Photogrammetric Assessment of Shoreline Changes
The evaluation of error or uncertainty in shoreline change studies is an issue of prime importance for providing an adequate framework for calculated rates of change, and to allow the establishment of threshold values above which the rates would be significant. In this note a practical, easy-to-use method is presented to estimate error involved in the calculation of shoreline changes on aerial ...
متن کاملApplication of remote sensing video systems to coastal defence monitoring
Shoreline stability is an important issue along much of the Mediterranean’s Coasts. European project MEDDOOC INTERREG BEACHMED-e focused on the strategic management of beach protection for the sustainable development of the Mediterranean coastal zone. In the framework of this project, a video system has been installed in Valras (Gulf of Lions / France) to monitor coastal evolutions and recent p...
متن کاملAssessing the Accuracy of Automatically Extracted Shorelines on Microtidal Beaches from Landsat 7, Landsat 8 and Sentinel-2 Imagery
This paper evaluates the accuracy of shoreline positions obtained from the infrared (IR) bands of Landsat 7, Landsat 8, and Sentinel-2 imagery on natural beaches. A workflow for sub-pixel shoreline extraction, already tested on seawalls, is used. The present work analyzes the behavior of that workflow and resultant shorelines on a micro-tidal (<20 cm) sandy beach and makes a comparison with oth...
